Niki Stik in Bahia
This is the story of a Niki Stik traveling in Bahia, Brazil. The festival of São Boaventura in Canavieiras, a small city in the south of Bahia. A city which seemingly time left behind, with cobblestone streets, horse drawn carts, a simple and lovely society. This particular festival lasts for two weeks, with church services during the day, and partying with live bands, food, drinks, until 5 am every night. The time of year is July, and the temperature is perfect. The featured music is sung by Dona Edith do Prato, who was 102 years old at the time of this recording. She was a true Baiana, holding back yard jam sessions where she would serve food, and play the plates as percussion instruments. The song is titled “Marineiro Só”, a classic Bahia standard, with the lyrics stating “I’m not from here, I don’t have love, I’m from Bahia, Salvador” and it goes on to talk of the life of a mariner. Some of the scenes in the video are from Salvador, and this little Niki Stik has been all over! Enjoy.
